Twitter Phishing Scam - Check the URL
Apparently, Twitter has gone phishing. In one of the latest Internet scams to attain an individual’s personal information, direct messages (DMs) are showing up on users’ Twitter pages with enticing invites to a blog about themselves on blogspot.com. The DM reads: “Hey! Check out this funny blog about you…” The link in the message then redirects to a page (http://twitter.access-logins.com/login) that looks like the Twitter log-in page. However, it is actually not on Twitter – it’s a site disguised as Twitter to steal your log-in credentials instead.
If you have fallen victim to this phishing scam already, it may be possible for scammers to use your log-in credentials to send DMs to your friends and followers on your behalf. It may also be possible (according to an article on CNET.com) that since many people use the same user ID and password for multiple online services, it’s possible that credentials collected from this scam could be used to log in to other services, including financial sites.
The Twitter blog has more information on this phishing scam, as well as tips to avoid falling victim to it, and what you can do if you have already. If you are unsure in any way, a good idea would be to change your password.
Don’t fall victim to phishing scams like this. Always check the URL of the website you are on when filling out login forms.
