1) Yellow Pages’ MyBook Makes Local Search More Social
Yellow Pages has been investing in its mobile app, doing brand advertising and generally seeking ways to better compete with rivals such as Google, Foursquare and Yelp. It doesn’t have the reach of Google or the content of Yelp but with its mybook feature the company may have found a way.
MyBook was soft-launched in 2013 and formally announced earlier this year. It’s a cross-platform list-making and favorites tool. When signed in users can save business listings and make lists in different categories. That personalized content can be accessed from any device. Now it can also be shared via email, SMS and through social sites including Google+, Facebook and Twitter.
To date, MyBook has 2 million users who create lists on both the web and in the YP mobile app. More on Search Engine Land.
2) Pinterest for Business: Introducing a New Follow Button
Pinterest announces the launch of a new follow button this week- it will help people find the latest Pins from their favorite brands and publishers to discover stuff they like more easily.
The new Follow button will pop up a small dialog with a preview of the account’s latest Pins — visitors don’t ever have to leave a website to follow the account. Once someone follows, they’ll start seeing Pins in their home feed.
It’s easy to add this button to a site. You can get the new Follow button here and read more.
3) The 10 Best Shopping Engines
Each quarter, CPC Strategy releases their Comparison Shopping Report, a compilation of data from more than 4 million clicks and more than $8 million in revenue. The report ranks the industry’s top shopping engines for online merchants based on significant metrics like overall traffic, revenue, conversion rate, cost of sale, average CPC, and merchant response ratings.
E-commerce merchants can use this data to tailor their marketing budget to make more sales and increase product exposure on the sites that online shoppers frequently use to find great deals on products. Head over to Search Engine Watch for more on the 10 best comparison shopping engines.
4) 7 Things We’d Change About Google Hangouts
Google Hangouts has allowed its users to participate in text, voice and video chats since May 2013, but that doesn’t mean it floats everyone’s boat. Even though the free chat service is useful and convenient, it could use some tweaks to make it even better.
Various upgrades and new features could be extremely beneficial to the Google Hangouts community. Here, Mashable has rounded up a list of seven things we’d like to change about Google Hangouts.
